Janne Hanhisanto: Circles in 3D
am 011
Circles in 3d was inspired by the beauty of circles. A circle begins and at the same time ends. Always moving, looking for the end, only to find nothing but constant movement, creating something beautiful, something that gives it reason for its existence.

Dentist: Cuts
am 008
Cuts is the first official release from Washington D.C.’s Dentist. Lou DiBenedetto began recording as Dentist in 2007 as an outlet for his interest in synthesizers and affection for electronic musician Wolfgang Voigt’s work as Gas. Inspired by the versatility and inexhaustible replay value of Voigt’s ambient albums, Lou set out to record drones for himself to listen to on a purely functional level, a homemade musical accompaniment to working at his day job, driving his car or walking around the city. He kept his recordings to himself at first but eventually warmed to the idea of sharing them with friends and putting them online.
Recorded between October 2010 and February 2011, Cuts is the product of a particularly strenuous winter, a time spent wrestling with a resurgent depression long thought conquered. Accordingly, these dark, often harsh drones do not make for easy listening. Only the final track offers respite from the overriding sense of foreboding. Lou is happy to report that he’s feeling much better now and largely credits the creative process behind these recordings for the turnaround.

Cometa: Minimal Way
am 007
There are things that have deeply influenced me; some of these things are located in a novel by J. G. Ballard titled “The Drowned World”. The novel is at its core about a process of regression to a primal dimension of existence. In a philosophical sense, I understand this process as stripping a strata accumulated (often useless and misleading) in the evolution of human society, from the musical point of view as outrage, and a consequent simplification of musical structures. The purpose of this process is to achieve an essential dimension, an essential form, a point of departure. “Live” because “Minimal Way” is a recording of a small performance (music + images) last year in a tiny club in my hometown. The main element of the work is the water, the source of life, the amniotic fluid. I think one of the worst sins of modern society is to have created a barrier between man and his natural state.

Travel Trip: Ice in Holes
am 006
“Ice In Holes” is the debut album of Travel Trip, an experimental ambient duo. All seven tracks of the album are the result of an improvised project, based on two principles of quantum physics: entanglement and synchronicity. According to its “electro-quantum” character, the electric bass, unconventionally played, and keyboard synth generate fitted loops in live sessions, recorded on the fly. The musical trip begins with an icy atmosphere, and develops a dialogue, moving and crossing over each other, fusing together ambient, jazz, minimal, and microelectronics elements.
The centre of this album is dedicated to Sandy Dennis, an American actress famous in the 1960s , whose voice is used as inspiration for a trip in time other than in space. The title “Ice in Holes” provides a non-standard image to let listeners freely visualize their own ambiance, looking for the hidden ”Ace in the Hole”.

etokle: the golder bear & other works l.p.
am 005
Debut epic from Silver Lake ambient guitarist/producer Erik Tokle, “the golden bear and other works” fluidly combines guitar drone narcotics, vintage synth warmth, and processed field recordings to create a release that weaves and warps the fabric of consciousness. Consists of three tracks exploring the dichotomy of Californian paradise lost and found, existentialist beauty, and the science of sleep as sonic blanket. A distillation of the geological timescale into a single hour, think of this as reality TV for the hypnagogic state. Goede tijden!

Tom DePlonty: Corridor
am004
The music on Corridor, which was written between 2009 and 2010, combines material composed using musical processes and games – different ways of building up, breaking down, transforming and juxtaposing patterns – with improvised passages. Sometimes improvisation is used for raw material. For example, “In rain and light” is composed by looping and juxtaposing fragments drawn from one short passage in a piano improvisation. Other pieces are wholly or partially improvised, using a musical process or game for guidance, or as a foil.
These pieces are connected to a breadth of minimal and ambient music that I love, and sometimes also to the canons and melodies of children’s music. Since I am a pianist, pianos (more or less warped) often appear as characters. And the music is generally very quiet. In fact, two of the tracks (“Sleeping monsters lie” and “Zen baby”) are more or less lullabies – and those are the ones with the drums.

Paragaté: Gnosis
am 002
Paragaté is made up of four composers in collaboration to create music that is a mixture of improvisation within a defined set of rules. The rules give an underlying order – a certain group of chords, a slowly altering rhythm, a silence – which allows the improvisations to move on their currents. The works on this album have been created over a period of 22 years; it’s a kind of “best of” album, except that this is Paragaté’s first album! The oldest piece is Hello, from 1987, which uses only heavily processed sounds, and the most recent dates from 2010, Liquid Siftings, composed with Ableton Live. Paragaté is a fluidic group – although we started performing together as a group those many years ago, we went our separate ways, but still on occasion come together to create new works. This release is a result of time passed.
Charles Baker; electronics, keyboard, composition
Tom DePlonty; keyboards, voice, composition

Claus Gahrn & Tim Risher: Musical Sculptures
am 001
The music on this album was originally created for works of art inside the virtual world of Second Life, using slowly moving loops and silences. The sounds have evolved into real-life music, re-organized and filled with new meaning and substance. The rhythms and structures are created in the play of musical fragments. We are manipulating time – stretching and quickening the sounds with the passing seconds.
